Omplexity Mapping

Step 7 participatory systems mapping process designed to build shared understanding, foster consensus, and enable collective action. Rooted in system dynamics developed at MIT, OM uses causal loop diagrams to visualize the relationships within complex problems and facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue to co-create shared strategies for change.

Mapping as Engagement

An interview with our founder, Dr. Joe Hsueh, on the philosophy behind Omplexity Mapping.

“Enable stakeholders to bring their best selves to the change process”

Seeing SELF

• What is my work and where is it on the map? If not shown, where would I put it?

• What is my theory of change?

Seeing YOU and ME

• How does my success depend on your success?

• Does my work have unintended consequences to others?

Seeing WE and WHOLE

•Who is missing in the room?

•What is our shared vision? What are key indicators of success?

•What are high-leverage points for realizing our shared vision?

Case Study

Explore how we translate strategy into real-world impact through systems thinking, driving lasting regenerative change, and scaling globally.

GSG Impact Investment Scaling: Accelerating Global Impact Through Systems Thinking

Through the three stages of system design, community building, and blended finance, Omplexity supports GSG—an independent global steering group catalyzing impact investment and entrepreneurship—in identifying the barriers that hinder development and the levers that drive transformation, in order to accelerate systems change, align collective action, and scale the global influence of impact investment.

Osa Peninsula: Systems Change for a Regenerative Future

In partnership with the Regenerative Economy Lab (REL) and local leaders, Omplexity co-developed a systems map to address the complex environmental threats facing the Osa Peninsula—one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. By revealing root causes and identifying high-leverage points, we helped align cross-sector stakeholders around a shared vision for systemic regeneration. Outcomes include the restoration of coral reefs in Golfo Dulce Bay and the creation of Costa Rica’s first profitable recycling center, demonstrating the power of systems design to unlock collective action and scale impact.
