Our seven-step participatory systems-mapping process is designed to build shared understanding, foster alignment, and unlock collective action. Grounded in system dynamics from MIT, Omplexity Mapping integrates causal loop diagrams, stock-and-flow models, and a range of other methodologies to illuminate the relationships within complex systems. This approach enables meaningful multi-stakeholder dialogue and supports the co-creation of strategies that drive systems transformation.

An interview with our founder, Dr. Joe Hsueh, on the philosophy behind Omplexity Mapping.

“Enable stakeholders to bring their best selves to the change process”

• What is my work and where is it on the map? If not shown, where would I put it?
• What is my theory of change?
• How does my success depend on your success?
• Does my work have unintended consequences to others?
•Who is missing in the room?
•What is our shared vision? What are key indicators of success?
•What are high-leverage points for realizing our shared vision?

Explore how we translate strategy into real-world impact through systems thinking, driving lasting regenerative change, and scaling globally.
Omplexity worked with Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG) to map the impact investing ecosystem, identify the barriers that hinder development and the levers that drive transformation at the national scale. The findings were published in two GSG reports “The Impact Principle: Widening & Deepening the Market for Impact (2018)” and “National Advisory Boards: A Handbook (2018).
In partnership with the Regenerative Economy Lab (REL) and local leaders, Omplexity co-developed a systems map to address the complex environmental threats facing the Osa Peninsula—one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. By revealing root causes and identifying high-leverage points, we helped align cross-sector stakeholders around a shared vision for systemic regeneration. Outcomes include the restoration of coral reefs in Golfo Dulce Bay and the creation of Costa Rica’s first profitable recycling center, demonstrating the power of systems design to unlock collective action and scale impact.
